Keynote Speech


The team are very proud of John. Today he speaks at a conference for level 6 students at the faculty of Education and Communities, discussing well being and sharing his vast knowledge of teaching. This informative and fun talk explores the importance of taking notice in the classroom, paying attention to the finer details. This awareness provides the practitioner with a greater connection with self and others and therefore a therapeutic and educative alliance begins.

John has been lecturing and teaching over the last twenty years and continues to share his experiences in a range of educative settings.

In March, we were invited to speak at the Senedd.  Gwylan were honoured to visit the friendly city of Cardiff.  In preparation for the meeting, we visited Bute Park: such a wonderful, spring setting.  We very much enjoyed the pause before the meeting.

Later, at the Senedd, we had a terrific welcome from Kirsty Williams AM, Cabinet Secretary for Education.  We enjoyed talking passionately about the benefits that this programme has in the modern classroom.  It seems that everyone loves PausePoints!

Dyffryn Taf – Reaching Your Potential

Yoga during exam times

We are delighted to be offering a new yoga initiative to create a place of calmness and relief from stress, during exam periods.  Yoga, as an ancient system of exercise, has a great potential to teach pupils about resilience and to improve their total well being.

The six-week program is designed to use breath-work, movement and relaxation to aid better concentration, increase productivity and respite during what can be a testing time.  Most of all the one-hour sessions are fun, creating a safe nurturing and comfortable environment – the perfect retreat during exam times.

Pupils can benefit from the physical practice; with an emphasis on mastering techniques that can support success and resilience through the school life and future academic or vocational ambitions.

Spread a little kindness – Competition

This week it’s Children’s Mental Health week – 6th to the 12th of February 2017 .  The aim of the week is to encourage everyone — adults and children alike — to spread a little kindness.

We’ve all known someone going through a tough time, and it can be hard to know what to do to help, especially where children are involved.  It may sound simple but in these moments, small acts of kindness can make all the difference.

To show our  kindness, the Gwylan team is holding an exciting competition for schools in the West Wales regions – the lucky winner receiving a free yoga session by our experienced in house yoga teacher.

To enter, it’s really simple: ‘like’ our Facebook page, comment, explaining how your school might benefit from yoga and finally, complete your entry by sharing this page, raising awareness for children’s mental health.  Alternatively you can email your entry to, with a name, comment and your contact details.

The closing date will be Wednesday 15th of February 2017.  A winner will be selected shortly after this date.

Charity Challenge

A rotten wet day but that didn’t dampen spirits. The Futureworks learners were out and about (keep active) negotiating (learn) and spotting bargains (take notice), connecting with local businesses, all in the aid of a local charity (give). We’ll done guys, not a easy task but you all excelled on a challenging day.
